Food

Fast food was a really big part of me when I was growing up. When I was a child, whenever I and my parents went somewhere, we always stopped by at a fast food chain. My parents knew that every time they bring me to McDonald’s, I would be happy. They always ordered spaghetti for me, and yes, there were spaghetti on the McDonald’s menu of the Philippines. They gave me happy meals, which comes with a toy. I still remembered when I started going to my new school when I was in third grade, every time I and my cousins would have a snack after our school, McDonald’s has been always our first choice. I usually ordered their combo meals, for almost seven years; when I was still not aware how fast food chains worked that time. A lot of people were sometimes mad because their food comes with a small serving. And the most embarrassing moment in my life was also connected to McDonald’s. One afternoon, when we were on the drive-thru, my cousin asked me what do I like to order, and I told her that I like a cheeseburger and fries, that time I thought that she would treat me, but I was wrong when she asked me where was my money. I was embarrassed because I was already hungry that moment, I had no choice but to cancel my order. So I just sat there and pretended that I fell asleep. When I told my parents what happened that afternoon, they started to give me an allowance for my snacks. For seven years I always had my snacks at McDonalds for almost twice a week.
But now that my parents told me what can I get on eating at McDonald’s, I am trying to avoid it. I just realized that maybe my past habit of eating at McDonald’s was one of the reasons why I am over weight. Because I already aware about my health, I start to live a healthy life. I go to the gym and I watch everything that I eat. Last February, I changed my ways of eating. I stopped going to any fast food chains. And when I checked my weight last May, I was surprised that I already lost 15 pounds; that small changed in my life motivates me to really avoid fast food chains. Of course, sometimes I have no choice but to eat at fast foods because my family wanted to, I should just order the smallest calorie count. I am just happy right now that I have already stopped my habits of eating at fast food chains. I just hope that my readers would learn something from my experience, because I believe in the saying that our health is our wealth. They can always trick me about their product on advertisements, but I shall always have a self-control. They already fooled me many times and now they may not anymore. Why will I give my body junks when I can eat healthy foods, right?

  1. I think McDonalds has targeted many children over the past decades. Congratulations on deciding to eat healthier alternatives, it really changes your life.

  2. As with all processed foods and fast food chain restaurants, they all have perfected their food to a point where we become "addicted" to it; however, it's a sad truth that most of these "fast-food addicts" are young children. It's never too late to change your unhealthy eating habits though, and I tip my hat to you for taking that step for yourself :)

  3. They gave spaghetti at McDonalds? My whole life has been a lie. Sometimes I think about how bad our health would be if we stuck with that terrible food.

  4. Being Filipino myself I didn't know McDonald had spaghetti in their menu, I think that is so cool. Congratulations on losing the weight and having the will power on avoiding fast food. I know fast food can be so convenient, that is one of my challenges as well.

  6. Way to go with your change in eating habits. It is definitely difficult to do, since it's so easy to relapse with fast food.

  7. McDonalds has been a part of all our lives, and we don't know exactly what it does to our body. When we were young we never even considered what we ate so good for you to take an interest in what eat.

  9. That is insane McDonald’s served spaghetti at the Philippines. I’m curious; they should serve it in the USA. Also that is awesome you manage to have self-control. Most people, like my self is hard to accomplish it.
